Hello! My name is Manni and I run Adult Programming at Lower Providence Community. This is a space to learn more about what I do and how I bring programs to the library!
Summer is almost over! Where did time go? It honestly has felt like a blur. Summer Reading is our busy season and I am in charge of running our Beanstack app for summer reading. I help patrons log their reading and redeem their badges for tickets and prizes. I love summer reading. I love seeing people of all ages get excited to read! My favorite part is putting together the weekly adult prizes.
Along with summer reading, I had the opportunity to attend the American Library Association Conference, which was held in Philadelphia this year. I learned so many interesting things that I'd love to implement at LPCL. I attended lectures about branding, collaborative programming, community engagement and more! I also met other library professionals from all over the county. I even got to meet the Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden! I feel this experience was truly a once in a career opportunity, so thank you to the Board of Trustees and our Library Director for inviting me to go!
With summer winding down, I'm already thinking about our fall programming. Cozy movies, rainy day crafts, and programming that helps wrap up the year. I'm always taking movie suggestions for our monthly movie matinee; so email me if there's something you missed in theaters!
I'm going to finish my posts by telling you what I'm currently reading. My reading tastes lean towards "quirky" non-fiction. I love immersive journalism or an off-beat true history/crime. My guilty pleasure is a celebrity memoir and middle grade chapter books.
Right now, I'm reading The Best Minds: A Story of Friendship, Madness, and the Tragedy of Good Intentions by Jonathan Rosen. It's about two boys growing up together in New Rochelle in the 1970's and 80's. Their lives converge and deviate in interesting but also sad ways. I'm also currently listening to Vanya and The Wild Hunt by Sangu ManDanna. It's a middle grade fantasy story that rivals the excitement and adventure of Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.
Thank you for reading, see you around the library!
